Goodheart-Willcox Outstanding Service Award

Goodheart-Willcox Publisher strongly believes in the HOSA mission and is honored to be a partner in educating and training today’s young people to be tomorrow’s health professionals. As a result, Goodheart-Willcox will recognize three local HOSA chapter advisors, one from each HOSA region, who have made outstanding contributions of local, regional, state and/or national significance to the promotion, development, and progress of HOSA–Future Health Professionals with an unrestricted cash award of $2000 each. State advisors are invited to nominate one nominee from their state using the following criteria.

Procedure  

  1. Each state association may nominate one advisor for the regional award. State associations will determine their process for selecting one nominee to complete the online application.
  2. State advisors will notify National HOSA of the candidate’s name and email address before April 12.

  3. State advisors will share the online application form link with nominees for completion by April 28 deadline.

  4. Applicants will receive a confirmation email message when the completed application is submitted.  
  5. Finalists selected for a second review will be asked to submit additional information by May 10 to include two letters of support, a one-page resume and a photo.  
  6. This special recognition award does NOT replace the annual HOSA Local Advisor Recognition at the ILC for one secondary HOSA advisor and one postsecondary/collegiate advisor representing each state association.  


Candidates are current HOSA advisors and selected on the following award criteria:

  • Exceptional educational talent as evidenced by effective HOSA chapters and student involvement in the classroom and school and/or state and national organizations;
  • Exemplary HOSA accomplishments beyond the classroom that provide models of excellence for other HOSA advisors and members;
  • Individuals whose contributions to HOSA are worthy of the spotlight;
  • Offer strong long-range potential for professional and leadership; and
  • Engage and inspire HOSA presence that motivates and impacts students, colleagues and the community.  

 

Application Form Requirements  

  1. Name, E-mail address, School, School Address Information.
  2. Number of years in current position
  3. Number of years of service as a HOSA advisor.
  4. Description of HOSA accomplishments, achievements, contributions, and involvement (This list should describe activities at local, regional, state, and/or national levels; chapter and member activities within the school and community, and partnership development.) Maximum 25 entries: chronological list
  5. What would students say about you? Maximum 250 words.
  6. What are your greatest assets as a leader of future health professionals? Share your personal story. Maximum 250 word

 

All applications must be received electronically through the online form process by the April 28  deadline.  Award finalists will be contacted before May 10 final deadline to submit additional information.

  1. Two letters of support:
    • One letter (maximum one page; either the advisor's school principal or superintendent)
    • One letter (maximum of one page; from any of the following: business, educational or civic leader) The letter may not be from the State Advisor. 
  2. Resume: limited to one page  
  3. Photo: Digital, high resolution (at least 300 dpi), and submitted in .jpg format. Files 2MB or larger are preferred. (The photograph will be used for publicity purposes only.)  
  4. Finalists must attend the HOSA 2017 International Leadership Conference. Awards will be presented to winners at the Recognition Session, Friday, June 23 in Orlando, FL.
