Middle School Chapters!
These photos spotlight the inaugural meeting of the York Middle School (SC) HOSA Chapter. At the initial
interest meeting, twelve 7th and 8th grade students eagerly participated in an interactive leadership
simulation, a technology-based HOSA scavenger hunt, and a very special visit from two awesome HOSA
alumni, a retired local HOSA chapter advisor and SC HOSA competitive events team member, Lisa Carrigan
and Allison Roof, 8th grade counselor. Following the initial meeting, interest in joining HOSA has grown. One
student was so excited he suggested weekly chapter meetings rather than the planned monthly gatherings!
The school nurse will serve as chapter advisor with assistance from Shannon Carrigan, Assistant Principal,
and the alumni in attendance at the organizational meeting. Member recruitment strategies included fliers,
word of mouth, school website announcement, and “healthy’ peer pressure! Their program of work will
include preparing for the Health Education competitive event by reaching out to the local elementary school
and to practice delivering the lesson plan, collaborating with the English department to integrate the Medical
Reading event, and scheduling fundraisers to promote HOSA community involvement.
HOSA looks forward to following
the progress of the HOSA
chapter at York Middle School
and the growth of the HOSA
Middle School Division
throughout the nation and
internationally during the
2016-2017 membership year.
