Assignment #1 – National Recognition Program

  • Introduce students to the National Recognition Program. Have them read the articles in the HOSA E-Magazine that illustrate and describe the program.
      
  • Assign students to complete the National Recognition Program portfolio.
      
  • At the end of the school year, have industry professionals judge the portfolios.
      
  • The portfolio belongs to the student and should be used for future job interviews, etc.
      

Assignment #2 – Service-Learning

  • Take students to the Media Center or a computer laboratory where they can research the topic “Service-Learning.”
      
  • Have students answer the following questions:
      
    • What is service-learning?
        
    • Is service-learning a good idea for HSTE students? Why or why not?
        
    • Give an example of a national service-learning organization and describe what they do.
        
    • How could you participate in service-learning, and what would be the outcome?
