Course Introduction
|
This course
is designed to be a self-paced curriculum for teachers of Health
Science Technology Education (HSTE) programs. The purpose is to help teachers
learn how to develop effective HOSA partnerships.
The flexible design of the
course allows it to be used for a variety of purposes:
|
- Self-paced Professional
Development – The HSTE teacher works through the
course at his/her own pace, completing the assignments as desired.
A mentor may or may not be assigned for discussion and support
services. Staff development credit may be awarded by the sponsoring
agency (school or Texas Education Agency).
- CEUs –
The HSTE teacher follows the requirements for earning CEUs by
the sponsoring agency. Assignments are submitted as requested
by the course instructor/facilitator but are not graded.
- University Credit
– The HSTE teacher follows all requirements for enrollment
and credit by the sponsoring university. Assignments are completed
and submitted by published deadlines, and then graded by the university
professor. A final exam may or may not be given.
|
The design of
the course requires that the person taking the course is currently
teaching Health Science Technology Education, or will be teaching
the course in the coming year. The actual incorporation of HOSA
activities in lesson plans is essential.
It is also important that the
person taking the course have access to the Internet and a printer,
and is comfortable navigating the HOSA web site at www.hosa.org.
The course consists of five
modules. A summary of each module is described below.
|
| Module 1:
