Tuesday, June 17, 2008 marked the preliminary day for the
2008 National HOSA Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas. Everyone
was busy preparing HOSA Headquarters and Competitive Events
Headquarters for the conference delegates.
The Competitive Events leadership met all day preparing for
the upcoming 55 events with over 4,200 competitors. Everyone
has worked hard to make sure the competitive events run as
smoothly as possible.
New state officers spent the morning in the Leadership Academy
with Mark Burley. Mark led the group in some interesting
activities that focused on leadership skills. Excitement was
in the air as the students prepared themselves for the tasks
that lie ahead of them.
Mark also led the afternoon Leadership Academy for students
who had participated in officer training prior to the NLC. Mark
engaged them in interactive sessions that enhanced their critical
thinking skills, leadership skills and much more.
Then at 3:00 p.m. the hustle and bustle of state advisor registration
began. It was a great time for state advisors to see
each other and receive materials for their states. After
the rush of registration, the state advisors were able to enjoy
a dinner meeting sponsored by Applied Technologies. State
advisors received information on conference updates and some
well-deserved thanks for their service to HOSA.
Students, advisors, guests and family members arrived at the
hotels throughout the day. Not only were things busy
at the Sheraton Dallas, but also the West End, Westin and Hyatt
Dallas hotels experienced the HOSA delegate influx. After
a long day of traveling on buses, planes and cars, students
and advisors were happy to reach their final destination in
the Lone Star State and Dallas, Texas.
That evening, a small group of HOSA leaders had the incredible
opportunity of volunteering their time at two area hospitals.
The group, comprised of HOSA State Presidents, visited with
the children of Scottish Rite Children's Hospital and Children's
Medical Center Dallas. While there, the kids and officers
worked together making "boo-boo bunnies," a modified
ice-pack that can easily be held by children with a "boo-boo." It
was a special evening for everyone involved and one that will
be remembered for a long time to come.
Back at the Sheraton, nineteen candidates began the national
officer screening process. The candidates attended an
orientation session and completed the officer examination. The
interview schedule for the officer candidates was posted at
10:30 p.m.
For the final event of the day, the National Executive Council
hosted a reception for state presidents.
It has been a great day! Everyone is excited about
the 31st Annual National Leadership Conference.
HOSA and the fun still await the delegates at the 2008 NLC!
