Thursday morning got off to an exciting start at 7:00 a.m.
with HOSA’s
Voting Delegates getting the opportunity to meet the National
Officer Candidates at the Meet the Candidates Breakfast. During
the breakfast, Voting Delegates were able to ask questions
of the candidates in an effort to learn more about each individual.
HOSA Leadership hosted the second Newcomers - Coffee Talk
of the conference. Coffee Talk provides local advisors an opportunity
to visit with the leadership in order to ask questions and
gain insight into the organization.
8 a.m. brought test time for many nervous competitors in
several events including, Clinical Nursing, Medical Assisting
Clinical, CPR/First Aid, EMT, Dental Assisting and Sports medicine.
Amy Gallimore facilitated over 130 HOSA leaders in the morning
and afternoon sessions of the HOSA Leadership Academy. The
students always come away from these sessions very excited
to return to their chapter and put into practice the knowledge
they have gained.
Exhibitors opened up booths at 9 a.m. to prepare for their
second day of the HOSA Exposition. It was busy for the exhibitors
as competitors and delegates visited the booths steadily throughout
the day to learn more about their organizations and products.

Approximately 130 judges arrived during the day to attend
orientations, which gave them the opportunity to ask any questions
they might have about the judging process. HOSA is extremely
thankful to the judges who volunteer their time and ensure
that each competitor has the best opportunity and experience
at this year’s NLC. HOSA’s judges make it possible
for students to compete in order to succeed.
HOSA is proud to offer 20 Educational Symposiums on Thursday
of this year’s NLC. Conference delegates are invited
to attend as many as they are able. Educational Symposiums
are a great tool for HOSA members because they learn about
real world issues from professionals in the healthcare industry.
Educational Symposiums further classroom education for both
HOSA members and advisors. There are a variety of Symposium
topics this year including, “Anatomy in Clay Workshop – Muscles
and Bones,” “Flight Nursing,” “Your
Future in Dentistry,” “Medical Reserve Corps 101,” “The
Art of Baby Catching,” “Autism Speaks” and
many more.
The Business Session began Thursday at 3 p.m. This session
is always open to all HOSA delegates at the National Leadership
Conference, but Voting Delegates are the only HOSA members
allowed to vote on the proposed motions and National Officer
Candidates. This session gave National Officer candidates an
opportunity to speak to the Voting Delegate Assembly before
the votes were cast. Voting concluded at 5 p.m., and the results
will be announced on Friday evening at the Recognition Session.
This was the third year for the HOSA Showcase, which allows
HOSA Conference Delegates the opportunity to view the projects
and work of several events including, Career Health Display,
Chapter Newsletter, Outstanding HOSA Chapter scrapbooks, Extemporaneous
Health Poster, Community Awareness Project, Health Education
presentations and Clinical Specialty projects. This is a great
way for teachers and students to learn about these events.
It is obvious that the delegates are having an exciting time
meeting new people, competing and spending time with their
HOSA friends.
