Day 2 of the 29th NLC began with anxious candidates and interested voting delegates at the “Meet the Candidates’ Breakfast.” The officer candidates had the opportunity to talk with fellow delegates. The candidates gave their opinions and discussed their ideas about HOSA issues. It was a good session to begin the day!
The second “coffee talk” was held at 8 a.m. today. This session was very informative and focused on new local and state advisors who had numerous questions ranging from guidelines for competitive events to HOSA official dress.
Another group of busy professionals were the exhibitors. They began their second leg of the HOSA Exhibition today. The day was steady for the exhibitors as delegates continued to visit the booths throughout the day to learn more about the products, information, and services offered.
HOSA is very proud to offer 26 Educational Symposiums on Thursday and Friday. We are most appreciative to the presenters. The Educational Symposiums provided students and advisors with up-to-date information and real world issues from the perspectives of the health care industry professionals. Some of the symposiums included: Flight Nursing, Genes in a Bottle, Orthotics and Prosthetics, You be the Judge, Nurse Mid-Wifery, Sports Medicine and Your Feet, and many more. One of the newest symposiums involved information on a fund-raising adventure called “Teeing Off for HOSA.” All delegates are encouraged to attend as many of these symposiums as possible. There is a lot of good information available right at your fingertips!
Competitive Events filled the hallways during the early morning hours and into the late evening. Round Two Competitive Events posted early this morning were:
HOSA Bowl, Parliamentary Procedure, Medical Reading, and Creative Problem Solving.
The following events took place today:
Job Seeking Skills
Extemporaneous Health Display
Creative Problem Solving
Biomedical Debate (Preliminary rounds)
Another exciting phase of competitive events occurred during the HOSA Showcases. The Outstanding HOSA Chapter Scrapbooks, Extemporaneous Health Posters, Clinical Specialty portfolios, Chapter Newsletters, and Health Education notebooks were viewed by the conference participants. It was terrific to see such wonderful and exciting displays of HOSA members’ creativity, knowledge, and resourcefulness.
At the hour of 9 p.m. another set of Round Two Competitions were posted. These included:
Administrative Medical Assisting
Medical Laboratory Assisting
Medical Assisting Clinical
The business session began at 3 p.m. Although the session is open to all HOSA delegates, only the voting delegates are allowed to vote on the proposed motions brought before the group. The National Office Candidates also had one final opportunity to speak with the delegates before the ballots were cast. The results of voting will be announced at the Recognition Session on Friday night.
Mark Burley led a Leadership Academy today for HOSA student members. As always this session was a big hit for all attendees.
It has been another busy day at the 29th NLC in Anaheim. A lot of networking has occurred today as many HOSA delegates have met in hallways, at competitive events sites, at judges’ orientations, at state meetings, and just EVERYWHERE. HOSA looks forward to tomorrow as the competitions are completed and the recognition continues!
