Daily Updates - Thursday, June 23, 2005
The Opryland Hotel was bustling
and NLC delegates were busy and energetic as they prepared
for orientations, exams and procedures for Tuesday’s
events.
Promptly at 8 am, competitors from HOSA Bowl, Parliamentary
Procedure, Medical Reading and Creative Problem Solving crowded
around the posting of the Round Two competitors in front
of HOSA headquarters. Those competitors moving on to Round
Two will spend today preparing for their next round.
The National Officer Candidates
were busy once again with the “Meet the Candidates’ Breakfast” from
7 – 8:30 AM. Here, they were able to meet with the
Voting Delegates and became more acquainted with those they
might not have had the opportunity to meet.
Exhibitors began setting up booths at 9 AM to prepare for
their second day of the HOSA Exposition. It was busy for
the exhibitors as competitors and delegates visited the booths
steadily throughout the day to learn more about their organizations
and products.

Approximately 120 judges arrived
during the day to attend orientations, which gave them
the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about
the judging process. HOSA is extremely thankful to the
judges who volunteer their time and ensuring that each
competitor has the best opportunity and experience at this
year’s NLC. HOSA’s judges
make it possible for students to compete in order to succeed.
HOSA is proud to offer 19 Educational
Symposiums on Thursday and Friday of this year’s NLC. Conference delegates
are invited to attend as many as they are able. Ed Symposiums
are a great tool for HOSA members because they learn about
real world issues from healthcare industry professionals.
Educational Symposiums further classroom education for both
HOSA members and advisors. The Ed Symposium topics range
from “Hands on Anatomy in Clay – Reflex Arc and
Heart,” “Flight Nursing,” “Athletic
Training Careers – Health Care for the Physically Active,” and
many more. HOSA was grateful to Vanderbilt Medical Center
for landing their LifeFlight helicopter outside the Opryland
hotel and offering HOSA members the opportunity to tour the
helicopter and find out more about Flight Nursing.
The Business Session began Thursday at 3 PM. This session
is always open to all HOSA delegates at the National Leadership
Conference, but Voting Delegates are the only HOSA members
allowed to vote on the proposed motions and National Officer
Candidates. This session gave National Officer candidates
an opportunity to speak to the Voting Delegate Assembly before
the votes were cast. Voting concluded at 5 PM, and the results
will be announced on Friday evening at the Recognition Session.
It is obvious that the delegates are having an exciting
time meeting new people, competing and spending time with
their HOSA friends. They are looking forward to the days
ahead and the excitement of being at nationals!
