Member Opportunity

The past several years we have developed an extraordinary partnership with the Medical Reserve Corps and the Office of the Surgeon General.  The HOSA Internships in the Office of the Surgeon General have provided HOSA members and advisors with unique learning experiences and connections.  We have a new opportunity for HOSA members (ages 12 to 17) who are interested in community preparedness in general and youth preparedness in particular.  Several HOSA chapters have participated in the Medical Reserve Corps Partnership, CERT Skills, and Public Health.  A growing percentage of HOSA chapters have developed partnerships with local Medical Reserve Corps. And, a few HOSA state associations and chapters have organized or joined Junior MRCs.  HOSA members have considerable knowledge and experience that would be invaluable as a member of the national Youth Preparedness Council (YPC).  The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking applicants/nominations for the YPC.

Those selected will have the unique opportunities to:
- serve on the highly distinguished national council;
- complete a self-selected youth preparedness project;
- voice your opinions, experiences, ideas, solutions and questions on youth disaster preparedness with the leadership of FEMA and national organizations working on youth preparedness; and,
- participate in the YPC Summit

HOSA members may apply on their own behalf or they can be nominated by an adult familiar with their youth preparedness activities.  HOSA members interested must submit the following:

- completed application form
- a narrative, and
- a letter of recommendation

Specific information about completing and submitting the application and attached can be found on the application. Applications and supporting materials must be received no later than 11:59 EDT on April 19, 2013 in order to be eligible.
