2016 International Leadership Conference Highlights

Over 9,200 HOSA members, advisors and guests participated in HOSA's first-ever International Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN, June 22-25, 2016.  HOSA-Future Health Professionals from all over the country, Canada, American Samoa and Puerto Rico came together to compete, learn and share their HOSA experiences.  Conference highlights included 57 health-related competitive events, 147 educational workshops, keynote addresses from VADM Vivek Murthy, M.D., the U.S. Surgeon General, and Brad Montague, creator of Kid President, and a special celebration for HOSA's 40th Anniversary.  
HOSA was extremely pleased to recognize 91 HOSA members who received $98,500 in scholarships at the national level. This year HOSA's state and national scholarship programs awarded HOSA members $451,108 in scholarships.
As a part of HOSA's 40th Anniversary Celebration, the HOSA Hall of Fame was introduced.  The HOSA Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize individuals and companies who have rendered outstanding service to HOSA, health and biomedical science education and the health industry. HOSA’s former Competitive Events Directors, Honorary Life Members, Past National Presidents, Past HOSA, Inc. Chairmen made up the inaugural class of HOSA Hall of Fame. 
 
During the annual Business Session, the voting delegates elected eight outstanding HOSA members to serve on the National Executive Council. Congratulations to President, Elizabeth Carnesi (AZ); President-Elect, Priya Rathakrishnan (GA); Region I Vice President, Jada Holliday (OK); Region II Vice President, Holly Hardin (AL); Region III Vice President, Abraham Onifade (NJ); Postsecondary/Collegiate Vice President, Kahlil Tubbs (MI); Secondary Board Representative, Angeli Sharma (NJ); and Postsecondary/Collegiate Board Representative, Shawnee Chaudhury (NJ).  
The voting delegates also selected National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) as the 2016-2018 National Service Project.
The HOSA, Inc. Board of directors elected three new members to the board: HOSA State Advisor Region II, Dana Stringer (AL); HOSA Local Advisor Region II, Susan Readnower (KY); and HOSA Alumni Director-At-Large, Jason Huff (OH).  
This year 6,640 competitors competed in 57 competitive events demonstrating competencies developed through Health Science and Biomedical Science class instruction, technical training and HOSA activities. HOSA congratulates all middle school, secondary and postsecondary/collegiate winners in this year's competitive events program.

The membership goal for 2016-2017 is 225,000; therefore, we need your help!
