AMSUS 2019 Annual Meeting

The Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS invited Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia HOSA members to participate in their annual conference on December 3, 2019 at the Gaylord National Harbor Resort and Convention Center in Maryland with a unique agenda of activities planned for HOSA-Future Health Professionals. There were 300 HOSA members in attendance at this exciting event!

This year’s conference them was Transforming Healthcare Through Partnership and Innovation. HOSA members were able to have the privilege of attending the Opening Ceremony hosted by BG John M. Cho, MD AMSUS Executive Director and LTG Ronald J. Place, 2019 AMSUS Honorary President. The Keynote Speakers were Alex M. Azar II, Secretary of Health and Human Services, US Department of Health and Human Services and Congressman Brad Wenstrump (Ohio).

After the Opening Ceremony, LT Gayle Tuckett presented an engaging presentation on e-Cigarettes and Vaping. HOSA members were introduced to many issues that the country is currently facing in regards to this topic. A lively Q & A session followed LT Tuckett’s presentation.

A very important group of individuals conducted a panel discussion that was moderated by RADM Michael D. Weahkee. The participants included:

  • ADM Brett P. Giroir, M.D., Assistant Secretary of Health
  • VADM Jerome Adams, Surgeon General of the United States
  • Richard Thomas, M.D., President of the Uniformed Services University
  • LTG Ronald J. Placee, Director of the Defense Health Agency
  • Brig. General (Dr.) Paul Friedrichs, Joint Staff Surgeon
  • MG Daniel Dire, Deputy Surgeon General for Mobilization, Readiness, and Reserve Affairs

 

HOSA Members also had the opportunity to visit the Exhibits Program which reflected a special emphasis on pharmaceuticals, diagnostic laboratory, therapeutic devices, and services, along with general medical supplies and equipment.

AMSUS, the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, supports the federal health professional and honors the legacy of federal medicine’s tremendous impact in advancing and improving health for all Americans and international coalition partners. AMSUS is truly the society of all federal health professionals since membership is open to all healthcare professionals.
