HOSA Attends the 2019 ACTE Career Tech Vision Conference

Executive Council members attend and Kelly Roe, HOSA, Inc. Board member, speaks at HOSA-sponsored luncheon during the ACTE Vision in Anaheim, California, December 4-7, 2019.

In this past month, HOSA-Future Health Professionals was able to represent and spread the word of our organization to the Career Technical Education community at the Association of Career Technical Education Vision Conference. Here, Dev Patel, Eastern Region Vice President, Jake Kelley, President-Elect, and Vivian Do, President, were proud to represent HOSA as they assisted in hosting the Health Science Education Division Opening Session as well as share all that HOSA has to offer at the Expo.  The Health Science Education Division Opening Session was led by Linda Romano, Health Science Technology Education Division Vice President, ACTE.

At this conference, Dev, Jake, and Vivian were able to share their HOSA stories, showing how much of an impact CTE and HOSA has its members. Dev showcased how HOSA is about mentorship and how this unique space plays a vital role in giving students the tools they need for current and future success. Jake focused on how HOSA has enabled him to find his voice in the crowd by taking advantage of the multitude of opportunities that HOSA has provided. Vivian’s story talked about how HOSA allowed her to truly discover her passion for science, healthcare, and leadership, serving as a vehicle of self-discovery.

During this luncheon, everyone was also honored to hear from Ms. Kelly Roe, a past HOSA Executive Council member, California HOSA State Officer Coach, and current HOSA Alumni Representative on the HOSA Inc. Board of Directors. Ms. Roe shared her story of perseverance and how HOSA transformed from just an easy way to leave class early to HOSA becoming a meaning career pathway and second family. She truly demonstrated the power of HOSA and how it provides one with the chance to leave an impact on the healthcare community and the next generation of leaders.

Throughout the conference, HOSA was able to present at the exposition booth along with several other CTSOs, showing the power of student leadership. Here, hundreds of people filtered through learning about all that HOSA had to offer. At the booth, attendees were able to learn what HOSA could do for their students and how to get a chapter started. Multiple new advisors stopped by to express their excitement in beginning a new chapter. Many attendees were already HOSA advisors and were provided information needed in order to help foster growth within HOSA-Future Health Professionals. Aside from receiving valuable information about HOSA, attendees were also given the opportunity to have their blood pressures checked by the Executive Council, showing that HOSA provides students with both hands-on skills and leadership training. This drove home the point that no matter what position a HOSA member is in, our first priority is advancing the health of those around us.

HOSA is excited to see this partnership with ACTE continue to blossom and it serves as a body to help advocate for the strengths of Career and Technical Education and as the year begins, HOSA cannot wait to see where our membership will take us as we head Towards Tomorrow!
