HOSA Participates in the 2020 Virtual ACTE Career Tech VISION Conference

Utah HOSA State Advisor and Timpview High School Local Advisor, Denise Abbott, receives ACTE’s Health Science Division Outstanding Career and Technical Educator of the Year.  As a HOSA alumna, advisor, State Advisor, former HOSA Board Chair and health science educator for 34 years, Denise has been a wonderful advocate for the health science education/HOSA partnership and is most deserving of this award.  Congratulations, Denise!

HOSA-Future Health Professionals was honored to be represented at this year’s Virtual ACTE CareerTech VISION 2020, Nov. 30-Dec. 4, 2020, led by Jake Kelley, HOSA President, and LJ Rose Pasion, Eastern Region Vice President.

On Wednesday, LJ Rose Pasion, Eastern Region Vice President, served as host for the Health Science Education Division Opening Session, which was led by Linda Romano, the Division’s Vice President.  HOSA sends sincere gratitude to Linda for her leadership and support over the last three years. It has been a pleasure working with her as she has been “HOSA’s #1 Cheerleader”, and we will miss that enthusiasm and spirit!

One of the highlights of the ACTE-HSE and HOSA partnership is the sponsorship of the Catherine Bickel Junge ACTE Scholarship for CTE students pursuing a career in health. This year, HOSA Advisors are encouraged to contribute to the scholarship fund via a special GoFundMe Page. The goal is to raise $2,000 for student scholarships.

On Thursday, President Jake Kelley presented a workshop to Health Science Educators entitled, “Unlock Your Potential with HOSA.” Jake highlighted many different HOSA activities and opportunities in a virtual world. Jake recognized this school year has been challenging for all but reminded educators of the importance of sharing their passion for science, healthcare, and leadership through HOSA-Future Health Professionals.

Bergen Morehouse, Competitive Events Director, and Jan Mould, Competitive Events Assistant Director, also presented a workshop on HOSA’s On-Demand Learning Opportunities, a free classroom instruction and HOSA competition support to help HOSA advisors cope in the virtual world of teaching with HOSA activities.  New lessons are continually added.  hosa.org/OnDemandLearning.

Throughout the conference, HOSA was able to present at the virtual exposition booth along with several other CTSOs, showing the power of student leadership.

HOSA-Future Health Professionals is excited to see the partnership with ACTE continue to grow and serve as the body to advocate for Career and Technical Education and as the new year begins, how our members will be able to push past any barriers, achieve success, and unlock your potential!
